Component laboratory test in Switzerland and Germany


The newly developed Sol-Gel coating for the glass envelope of the receiver and of the absorber tubes (both will be developed by Cranfield University) will be tested at Hochschule Rapperswil – Institut für Solartechnik SPF regarding spectral optical transmittance using a FTIR spectrometer. After optimizing the coating, durability tests will be started with the latest samples from the lab. Furthermore, samples of the glass envelope and absorber tube prototypes coated by the pilot coating machine prototype at Cranfield University will be tested with regards to the optical properties and durability at HSR-SPF.


A new receiver, the secondary mirror and ultra light reflecting panels (primary mirror) will be developed for the FRESH NRG collector, respectively, and the performance of the combination of receiver and secondary mirror as well as the primary mirror will be tested:


  • spectral optical and mechanical properties at HSR-SPF,


  • geometrical optical properties and accuracy by means of Fringe Reflection Techniques at Fraunhofer ISE and


  • thermal properties at HSR-SPF.


Furthermore, HSR-SPF will test the impact of hail on the reflecting panels.
